Graphic Design.

Prior to pivoting to studying interaction design, I was learning graphic design for about 4 years. Here is a selection of my work, including logos and branding, publication design, packaging design, and more!

Bauhaus Publication
ABOUT
This was an exercise in understanding both design history and the main guidelines of publication design. I wrote an essay on the Bauhaus movement, and this essay is featured as the article shown in the publication mock-up. I incorporated Bauhaus principles into the design of the spread, using sans serif fonts, including the actual Bauhaus font in some places, primary colors, and drawing on Wassily Kandinsky's theory about colors and shapes.

Pepsi True Collage Ad
ABOUT
This is an advertisement for the Pepsi True drink. It's a more natural, healthier version of the traditional Pepsi soda – an important selling point that needed to come through in the ad. I used Photoshop to collage together images to create this ad, showing the can of soda sprouting up out of the ground in a beautiful, idyllic nature scene.

SCOBY Growth Diagram
ABOUT
This piece was created to diagram my process of growing kombucha SCOBYs. I conducted many different experiments with growth conditions that I visually represented in a diagrammatic form. Yeast flocculation was present in my jars of kombucha, and its changes over time are diagrammed, as well. There were three iterations, with "SCOBY Growth Diagram III" being the final version.

Friendly Farms Packaging Design
ABOUT
In this project, I invented a brand called Friendly Farms and designed the packaging for one of their products, a carton of milk. This exercise acquainted me not only with graphic design skills in terms of the logo and visual design choices, but also with legal standards and requirements for designing packaging, like the nutrition label. It was also an exercise in writing copy, as I dedicated one side of the carton to a brand promise.

Strategic Research Infographic
ABOUT
I worked with a team to conduct UX research with the goal of discovering opportunity areas for instant messaging platforms. To do this, our team conducted interviews with members of Gen-Z in two populations: China and the United States. This is an infographic I designed to simply and visually relay our key insights and findings.

Blackletter Publication
ABOUT
This was made alongside my Bauhaus publication to better my understanding of design history and publication design. Since my design tends to gravitate toward more modern styles, I wanted to challenge myself to design in a totally different way. I paid homage to Johannes Gutenberg, who brought the printing press to Europe and used Blackletter fonts in his famed Gutenberg Bibles. I tried to use a dark and high contrast color scheme to be reminiscent of gothic times. The article featured in the spread is my own writing.
